TRAVEL GUIDE:

SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK

SEQUOIA, CALIFORNIA

Sequoia was a very last minute and unplanned trip. We stayed in a Best Western outside of the park in Three Rivers, it was about an hour too far outside of the park. When we go back I will definitely be looking for a place to stay within the park to avoid the commute in everyday.

We went during the fall and I couldn’t imagine going any other time. It was so unexpectedly gorgeous. But in return it was also so unexpectedly cold! I made the mistake of letting Jerry check the weather this time, he said “it’s going to be like 75 degrees!” Yeah well, he was sorely mistaken because I nearly froze to death when I showed up in t-shirt and some yoga pants. We went to the gift shop inside the park and purchased nearly everything warm I could find, gloves, wool socks, hand warms, a jacket, a beanie and a scarf… it’s safe to say that I am now decked out with Sequoia National Park gear.

We stayed within Sequoia National Park for the first two days and then the last day we headed over to Kings Canyon. Unfortunately Kings Canyon was much more of a drive than I expected and it felt like we spent more time driving than actually taking pictures. We drove to see Zumwalt Meadow and then headed out of the park. I think next time I will skip Kings Canyon, and instead take a longer hike in Sequoia that show some of those beautiful spots tucked back in the hills.

I got super lucky to see these baby bear cubs, but looking back, I was kind of a moron for getting that close with mama bear close by. I shot this with a 50mm… so you can get an understanding off how close I really was.
